About Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware
Their Story
In 2008, the first FB4K chapter in Minneapolis gave away 300 bikes, then the following year – 5,000 bikes! It only grew from there…In the last 14 years, the FB4K organization has expanded exponentially. Delaware is the 18th city to open a chapter in the United States. Over 120,000 bikes have rolled through FB4K giveaways over the years and we’re not done yet—our future sights are set on other locations throughout the US and the world.
Mission & Purpose
Free Bikes 4 Kidz Delaware is a non-profit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. The public donates gently used bikes, we organize volunteers to clean and refurbish them, and then we give them away to youth-serving non-profits and other organizations.
Their Method
Every year, 25 million bikes are sold in the US. One-third of those bikes are 20” wheel-size, or smaller. Since kids grow like weeds, over 8 million bikes are outgrown each year. This means there is a virtually endless supply of bikes with more life left in them, that need a new home.

About Embrace Delaware
Embrace is an unconditional, inclusive, loving community for those affected by disability and their families.
We are able to carry out our mission through crucial and celebrated services such as respite nights, after school programs, summer camps, and accessible holiday events.
Additionally, we deliver assistance with IEP reviews, referrals for other needed services, as well as training for businesses, organizations, schools, and churches—we reach the entire community.
We understand your journey and we are here to help, always adapting to changing needs.
Since 2012, Embrace has been serving families in the Dover, DE area. What started as a small, broad philanthropic effort amongst close church friends grew into a well-supported organization by spotting and addressing major needs.
These friends saw kids affected by disability not able to attend traditional after school programs. They knew families that felt alone and confused. They experienced a larger community that was not well equipped to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for these individuals.
The services and training offered by Embrace address these needs in a way that also brings people together through lasting support and friendships. You’re not alone and we work each day to make sure families know and feel that.

The Elizabeth W. Murphey School
The Elizabeth W. Murphey School, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing residential group care, and transitional care for homeless young adults located in Dover, Delaware. In 1922 Sanford S. Murphey founded the School as a tribute to his mother, Elizabeth. The facility is called a school because Mr. Murphey said, “I wish it to be free from those unhappy associations which so often have been connected with children’s ‘homes’; and furthermore because I conceive the rearing of children in all aspects as an educational work.” Originally, the school was designed for children whose parents could not provide for their children. The children would live at the Murphey School under conditions as close to a family situation as possible.
Although there have been some changes in the type of individual who is accepted into the program, including children who are homeless, every effort is made to continue working with the family. This work includes work with community agencies attempting to resolve the issues related to homelessness.
The current residential program is designed to provide supervision, structure, and direction to youth referred for care throughout Delaware. Referrals for admission are accepted from the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families. The Murphey School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, national origin, or any other status protected by law.

About The Jason Anderson Foundation
The Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports, a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt not-for-profit organization, was founded by the Anderson family after Jason tragically died in an automobile accident in January of 2015 at the age of 33. The outpouring of support for the family from friends, colleagues, co-workers, neighbors and gracious members of the community prompted the family and close friends to establish this foundation in Jason’s name as a way to give back to that community.
Registration fees for youth sports are quickly escalating and can often reach $100 per season but are often higher. While many leagues offer assistance, the need is simply too great for many families to absorb completely. The Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports seeks to help all children participate in a sport of their choice but, due to family circumstances, may not have the funds available for this activity. As such, we have established a not-for-profit to ensure Jason’s memory lives on and that his strong connection to the positive effects of sports participation can be shared by all children. While it is our goal to eventually expand our reach to other markets – including those places where Jason lived and went to school – we are focusing our initial efforts in Delaware where his parents, wife and young son reside.
Sports were an essential part of Jason’s personal and professional life including his time at Syracuse University, the Syracuse Sky Chiefs, the New Orleans Saints, Dover Motor Sports and the Ohio University Sports Administration program. Jason also quietly gave back to his community. He volunteered his time to the Autism Society of Delaware, the Brain Injury Association of Delaware, the Delaware Sports Commission and the Delaware Chamber of Commerce.
Jason chose a career in professional sports but never forgot how important they were to him as a child and demonstrated that commitment through his actions helping young people at all levels.

About Read Aloud Delaware
Read Aloud Delaware volunteer readers are welcomed by a room full of excited children whenever they enter a preschool classroom. Each reading encounter is an opportunity to introduce children from 1 to 5 years old to the world of literacy and to spark the desire to become readers.
While looking at the colorful books and listening to the reader, children hear new words; learn new facts about animals or trees; have a personal experience with the alphabet, numbers, colors or shapes; learn how to have a conversation with an adult; and hear grammatically-correct English.
Research has shown that children who are read to from an early age have bigger brains, larger vocabularies, and greater knowledge of the world around them. Most importantly, they are more likely to have mastered language skills which will permit them to interact appropriately with their teachers and their peers. These skills will help them succeed in school and in life.
Success in the early grades leads to less need for costly and intensive remediation. More experience listening to stories helps children develop their brains and helps close the achievement gap.
Children who are read to, talked to and sung to every day from birth in verbal households will have heard 30 MILLION more words by age 3 than children who grow up in less educated and less verbal environments.
This language gap is almost insurmountable and creates the achievement gap. Read Aloud Delaware volunteers are reading every day to counteract this effect.
Children who read one-on-one with Read Aloud Delaware volunteers are:
- More likely to be employed as adults
- Less likely to drop out of school
- Less likely to depend on public assistance
The Read Aloud Delaware experience sets children on the road to literacy success. This is why we are passionate about reading aloud to Delaware's youngest children.
